Houzuki no Reitetsu

Okay, questions: Have you ever come across your mind how hell would look like? How many divisions and sub-divisions does it have? Who’s the King of Hell and who’s the most powerful oni? Yes, you have… Hmm… no, you don’t…
Then, you better watch this cho-omoshiroi anime; Houzuki no Reitetsu. It’s about hell and demons who work just like humans except in their own way, of course. It’s funny, it’s a comedy and the characters are lovable. I found myself liking this anime one week after its official airing on January 9^th. Until today, it has been airing the sixth episode. The story in this anime focuses on one level-headed and serious-minded yet very talented demon, Houzuki. He is a demon officer who acts as an assistant to Enma Daiou. He hardly smiles and he carries a kakkoi black batter with him. He is very strict with the King, too! Despite resolving various problems occur in Hell, this oni is a super sadist, LOL! Houzuki spends his free time nurturing his plant pet, Goldfish. It is a living-plant and instead of flower, it’s goldfish! How unique is that plant! Houzuki is voiced by Yasumoto Hiroki while Enma Daiou is voiced by Nagasako Takashi.

Houzuki cannot be left to face-to-face with Hakutaku, a celestial beast working in Togenkyo as a pharmacist. Both are pretty stubborn but very sagacious and once meeting each other, there’s always a catastrophe. And if both of them are being compared, Houzuki gets offended very easily. To Houzuki, it is like an insult he can’t tolerate with. By the way, if you look at one glance, these two look like twins. The opposite of Houzuki’s attitude, Hakutaku is cheeky~ he flirts a lot… yare yare….  Hakutaku is voice by Yusa Kouji.

According to the anime, hell is divided into eight greater hells and eight cold hells and has roughly 272 sub-divisions and one of it is the hell of the wild beasts a.k.a Animal Cruelty Hell. This is the place where three of Momotarou’s comrades work. They are Rurio (pheasant), Shiro (dog) and Kakisuke (monkey). Among the three, Shiro is always seen with Houzuki. I mean, where ever Houzuki goes, Shiro is there as well. Maybe because Shiro is a dog afterall and dog is man’s best friend, ahaha… As for Momotarou, he works in Togenkyo with Hakutaku.

The character of Houzuki used to be cosplayed by Kaname. He looks really like Houzuki with the serious look and has quite a demon-aura. Hummuh hummuh…
